Ready for Running in 2011!

January 3, 2011

Welcome to 2011. Now that my hip and foot are healthy, I started some serious training to get ready for the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler in April and for a half marathon (at some point). I have no words for my appreciation to Dr. Cheryl Lee-Pow for healing my injuries. I’m so lucky to have found her when I did!

I ended 2010 with a strong, pain-free run. I ran between 4 and 4.5 miles, but  I don’t know for sure how far or how fast because once again my Nike+ Sportband was doing its own thing. I actually turned it off once it was a mile past accurate. I kept running without it since I was doing a pre-measured run. It’s usually pretty reliable, but of late – not so much. It may be because I’ve improved my cadence so much in the last couple of weeks that with the increased foot turnover that it thinks I’m running farther. I hate that I have to keep resetting it to factory settings, so it’s time for an equipment upgrade.

Starting in 2011, I’m doing more core work and stretching in addition to my running.  This will get me stronger for longer distances, and improve my endurance and my pace. I’m going to do a combination of gym workouts and exercise videos at home.  One of my fav videos uses Capoeira, a Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, music, and dance. Capoeira uses body resistance so I don’t have to do crunches to get the same or better results!

Anyway, my Nike+ Challenge was to run 210 miles in 2010. I did 211.9 miles between 4/23/10 & 12/31/10. Using my Nike+ Sportsband I logged 92 workouts running at an average pace of 12’50”, which totaled 45:18:46 hours of exercise, and burning 23404 calories. Next year’s challenge is 211 miles. No prob!
